First Coloring Book for Toddlers Ages 1-3

First Coloring Book for Toddlers Ages 1-3

A first coloring book for toddlers ages 1-3

  • 111 drawings, all hand drawn by professional illustrators
  • Thick outlines and large shapes, so your child stays inside the lines
  • One drawing per page, so a marker cannot show through onto the next one

111 big, simple pictures, hand drawn with thick lines, no small detail, one drawing per page. Animals, fairy-tale characters, flowers, foods and everyday objects keep every page new. The word under each picture can be colored too, so first words and letters come along with the coloring.

Three things we checked on every page before it went into the book: the shape stays simple, the picture fills the sheet, and the animal looks friendly enough that a child wants to start.

What parents say

★★★★★

My oldest kids have more advanced coloring books but my 1 year old needed something just for her. The shapes in the pages are simplistic and not overly complicated for her to draw all over. The line work is thick so it is easier for her.

My 22 month old son adores this book, loves to flip through the pages and ask about each animal. They are cute cartoons but have enough detail he can tell them all apart.

★★★★★

Simple and large pictures are perfect for toddlers who are just starting to use crayons. There are many themes in the book which makes coloring exciting. We enjoy coloring together.

Questions parents ask

Is this too hard for a 1 year old?

No. The drawings were made deliberately simple for the youngest end of the range. A one year old will scribble across the shape, a three year old will start staying inside it. The same book works through all three years.

How thick is the paper?

It is standard book paper, printed by Amazon, and a few parents have wished for something heavier. The book is built around that: each drawing sits on its own page with a blank back, so a marker that soaks through marks an empty sheet rather than a second picture. A spare sheet underneath solves it completely.

Is this a printed book or a download?

The book on this page is a printed paperback shipped by Amazon. Where a printable PDF edition also exists, you will see a separate download button below the buy button.

Will markers bleed through the page?

Each drawing sits on its own page, so a marker that bleeds only affects the back of that sheet. Slip a spare sheet of paper underneath if you use alcohol markers.

Not sure this is the right level for your child?

We run a separate reference site about first coloring books for ages 1 to 3. It explains the four stages of first drawing, what a page should look like at each one, and what is normal at the table at one, two and three years old. It has a free picker that names the stage your child is at now, ten pages you can print today, and it says plainly when a first coloring book is already too simple. This book is used there as a worked example, not as the answer to every case.
