Words from the kitchen table

Food first words are the names of things a child eats or watches being eaten: apple, banana, bread, cake. They are the easiest words to practice because they come up several times a day at the table, so the name and the object line up without anyone arranging a lesson.

Color an orange in the afternoon. Find a real one at dinner. Say the word again. That is the whole method.

    Color

    Hand the page over and let the child color. One object, thick outlines, nothing else on the sheet to get lost in.

    Say

    Name what is on the page while they work. Cat. A cat says meow. Where are the cat's ears? Nothing to prepare, you already know the words.

    Notice the word

    The word is printed under the picture in hollow letters, so it can be colored too. Point at it, read it out, move on. No drills, no testing.

Questions Parents Ask

Why are food words good first words?

Because they repeat. A child hears apple, banana or milk several times a day, so the word attaches itself to something already in front of them.

Can we connect the page with real food?

Of course. Color a carrot, then hand over a real carrot at dinner and name it again. Keep it playful; it does not need to become a lesson.

Is there an apple in the books?

Yes, in Little Max Book 1, along with banana, grapes, bread, cheese, egg and milk. The other two books add fruit, vegetables and treats.
